USL are pleased to announce that works are now complete at St Mary's Church in Hendon (Borough of Barnet) in partnership with Art Architects.
This GII* parish church dates from mid-C13 and is nestled within the busy Hendon community on Church End Road.
The church was in vital need of renewal and conservation works to the external fabric and roofing along with internal plaster repairs. Our restoration team carried out an extensive programme of repairs and improvements including; stainless steel roof, stone masonry, structural timber repairs, renewed external render, rainwater goods, drainage and internal repairs and redecoration.
The building was suffering from various defects in the roof and guttering with structural movement and issues with drainage. Notably, these concerns were having a detrimental effect on the fabric of the building, particularly evident on plasterwork.
St Mary’s is the ancient parish church of Hendon, and records show that there has been a church on this site since at least 959AD. Today, St Mary’s hosts a large and diverse congregation.
