What we did...
  • Restoration & Conservation
  • Repairs to Nave Ceiling
  • Timber Repairs
  • Redecoration

The team at USL recently conserved, repaired, and renewed the interior of St Peter's & St Paul's Church in Shorne. Situated in the Gravesend area of Kent as part of the Diocese of Rochester, this Grade II* Listed building is believed to date back as far as Saxon times. There are elements of the structure that date from the 12th to the 15th century, and the whole church was restored in the 17th century.

USL were pleased to work in partnership with Rena Pitsilli-Graham Architect, to provide sensitive repairs to the nave ceiling.

The condition of the church (lath and plaster) ceiling was poor due to a partial collapse in 2022.  Our team were pleased to carry out this repair programme consisting of timber repairs, replastering, and full redecoration.

The works comprised of:

  • Internal site protection for valuable architectural features.
  • Internal birdcage scaffolding to carry out works.
  • Plaster ceiling repairs including careful removal of existing to resupply and install new.
  • Timber repairs with original laths retained where possible.
  • Prepared and redecorated both old and existing plasterboards.
