Universal Stone was proud to restore and rebuild the beautiful north aisle colonnade at St Nicholas Church, Peper Harow, as part of this award-winning masonry conservation project.

Following a devastating fire in 2007, the historic Surrey church underwent an extensive restoration programme. Working closely with Purcell and guided by original drawings, archived records, photographs and historical references, our specialist craftsmen carefully reconstructed the colonnade like for like.

Traditional heritage masonry skills were used to replicate the original design, preserving the architectural character of this important 19th-century Pugin church.

The wider restoration was recognised at the 2012 Natural Stone Awards, where St Nicholas Church received a Highly Commended award in the Repair and Restoration category.

Universal Stone’s work formed part of a comprehensive programme that also included roof reconstruction, intricate stonework, marble column restoration and the conservation of Pugin ceilings.
