USL is responsible for the sensitive restoration works to this impressive Grade II listed large private house in the Holland Park area, borough of Kensington and Chelsea.  Located in one of London’s most cultural neighbourhoods, this prominent building presents an exterior of symmetrical proportions including; four storeys plus basement, wide windows, stucco with channeling, heavy cornicing, continuous balcony to the first floor, double storey extension and a beautiful porch with columns.

The external fabric of the house was in need of repairs due to structural cracking, corrosion on metal fixings, water entrapment to skirting and door thresholds as well as stucco fracturing.

The programme of works included;

  • Removal of defective joints and cracks
  • Removal, repair and redecoration of all first floor railings
  • Renewal of failed balcony nosings with new Portland stone indents
  • Extensive stucco repairs
  • Redecoration to main facades using the Keim system (hydraulic lime mix with quartz sand)
  • Redecoration to windows including joinery repairs
  • Replacement of structural balcony brackets
  • Replacement of cast stone features / embellishments
  • Restoration and improvements to historic features
