Appointed as Principal Contractor, USL carried out the conservation works to the upstanding roofless stone & flint walls of this Grade II* SAM Franciscan Priory in Dunwich, East Suffolk.

The works encompassed of:

  • Design, erection and dismantling of scaffolding on the internal face to enable all materials handling to be from within the site. Localised towers only were used where necessary on the external face.
  • To the wall adjacent Priory Cottage, the wall on the west, Monastery Hill, elevations from the access gate up to the south west corner dismantling, rebuilding and rough racking and repairs.

The site is of great interest and attracts a number of yearly visitors. Whilst carrying out the works, this had to be taken into consideration and alternative walking routes for the public were put into place. To help the site further we incorporated copings and rough racking to areas of vulnerable walling to extend the life expectancy of the site.
