War Memorial is Revived with Stone Cleaning and Letter Cutting
USL stone masons recently restored this Portland stone war memorial for the Great Waltham Parish Council. This memorial included 600 incised letters and numbers across five faces.
The faces of the stone had varying degrees of lichen on the surface which disfigured the face of the lettering. Our masons were able to remove the lichen using specialist algae cleaners and applied steam cleaning to remove the staining and nullify the spores.
Our experienced stonemason Ziggy carried out letter cutter to reform the definition of the original lettering as well as hand ‘painting-in’ black to all letters and numbers.
Lovely to see the inscriptions and the beauty of the natural stone again.
