  • Wall Rebuilding & Repointing

USL was appointed by Colchester Borough Council to carry out essential repairs and conservation works to various sections of the Roman walls, a Scheduled Ancient Monument.

This included works to the 1st century Balkerne Gate which is the largest surviving and best-preserved Roman gateway in Britain. Careful planning and programming of the works was required to minimise disruption to members of the public, adjacent commercial premises and the various householders whose property was bordered by the walls. Our site management team kept in regular contact with affected residents and businesses to advise them of the progress of the works.

We are extremely pleased to have continued our relationship with Colchester Borough Council and have recently completed a lighting installation along the Balkerne Gate and Wall as well as at Colchester Castle.  To read more, click here.
