Conservation Works to the South Aisle Clerestory
USL were pleased to partner with Rena Pitisilli-Graham Architect to carry out masonry conservation works to the South Aisle Clerestory of Grade II Listed St Silas Church in Islington North London.
Built in 1860, designed by SS Teulon, completed in 1863 by EP Loftus Brock and chancel added in 1884 by W White.
The walls of the church are faced with Kentish Rag stone with a mixture of brick. The nave is wide and tends to take the visitor by surprise, particularly as the exterior gives the impression of a much smaller building. Along either side of the building there are passage aisles. The attractive clerestory windows are all under gabled roofs, each one different in design and pattern.
Our stonemasons created new replacement stone and tracery stone detailing for windows on the south clerestory. The programme includes stone cleaning, stone detailing, mortar repairs, glasswork and conservation.
