Church Receives New Extension and Vital Conservation Repairs
USL were pleased to act as Principal Contractor at All Saints Church in Brightlingsea, Colchester. Working in partnership with WHITWORTH Chartered Architects and Surveyors to undertake an extensive tower repair and conservation programme and create a new build extension to the North side of the church incorporating a new WC and kitchenette. This exciting scheme improves the church’s accessibility and usage.
An interesting conservation, refurbishment and extension project which included tower repairs on all four sides, brickwork, flintwork walling, stone restoration, new stone elements and carving, leadwork and metalwork renewal, glazing repairs, joinery and internal refurbishment.
All Saints is a Grade I listed building dating back to the 12th century, though on the site of a much older Saxon church of which only one small arch remains. The Tudor tower is particularly splendid and visible for miles out to sea.
This project was supported by the Heritage Fund and National Churches Trust.
