St Mary’s Church Hendon – Re-roofing of the North Aisle and North Chapel

USL is pleased to be associated with the re-roofing works at St Mary’s, Hendon, a sensitive heritage project focused on the North Aisle and North Chapel. The scope included the careful strip-out of existing roof coverings, flashings, gutters and associated elements, followed by the installation of a new terne-coated stainless steel roof covering, lead flat roof and box gutter, new eaves boarding and renewed rainwater goods.

The project also included specialist masonry and conservation works, such as lime plaster re-rendering to the Lady Chapel high-level wall, repointing to the external masonry, and the careful removal, overhaul and reinstatement of clerestory windows. All works were carried out with protection, access and temporary roof arrangements in place to safeguard the building throughout.

St Mary’s Church, Hendon is a Grade II* listed parish church dating from the mid‑13th century, with records of worship on the site going back to at least 959 AD. It remains an important historic landmark in the busy Hendon community today.
