Our Training

Fully trained in our respective disciplines

We have an ongoing training programme including continuous professional development for our USL operatives and head office employees.  Our workforce is fully trained in their respective disciplines.

Our training programme and competencies include;

Heritage skills for masonry and other restoration trades, Building Surveying / Scaffold inspections, Site Management Training / SSSTS / SMSTS, First Aid & Mental Health First Aid, Scaffold awareness, Working at height (including portable man anchor systems), Power tools, Ladder and tower access, Asbestos awareness, Extensive Inductions & toolbox talks, Manual Handling, Forklift Operation, Mobile Man Anchor, Abrasive Wheel, Health & Safety Awareness and Fire Warden.

We believe the site team is key to any project and has a wealth of experienced Site and Contract Managers with whom we have worked with for many years.  Our employees bring with them decades of experience in the preservation, conservation and restoration of historic buildings and monuments, from a management as well as trade qualified skills background.

 

Apprenticeship Programme & Promoting Heritage Skills

A number of our senior restorers/masons and staff members started at USL as apprentices and now they in turn train young people entering the business. We fully endorse apprenticeships and heritage training and work with colleges such as Building Crafts College London.  BCC specialises in Heritage Construction, Stone Masonry, Carpentry and other conservation skills.

Our exposure to specialist heritage projects offers invaluable hands-on experience for young people as well as mentoring, support and guidance from our senior level employees.
